It is no secret that rumors have been swirling about the fate of the Mac Pro ever since the company updated in 2010.  It has been reported that Apple either is considering discontinuing the product line for months.  While most (including me) users wait for an answer, one Mac Pro user has gotten sick and tired of waiting and is doing something about it.

Mr. Lou Borella, a professional editor and graphic animator from New York, has set up a FaceBook Page demanding Apple to clarify the Mac Pro’s fate.  Going online May 8th, the page already has over 3,000 Likes and is growing.

Mr. Borella issued a statement for Apple and reads in part (via Gizmodo.com):

Hello Apple. Remember me? I’m one of your loyal users. I’m one of the guys who has owned 2 MacPros, a G5, a G4, 4 laptops, one iMac, 4 iPods, one MacMini, 4 iPhones and a bevy of other peripherals and software packages over the last 10 years.

I’m looking for a little clarity.

Can you please let me and the other people on in this group know what is going on with the MacPro? Its been neglected for far too long. We realize all the success of the iPad and iPhone and we’re really happy with our new toys. But unfortunately many of us need to make decisions on hardware for professional uses that allow us to make a living.

We have no desire to go the Dark Side and buy a Windows machine. And while the Hackintosh community has made great strides its not a viable option for a professional environment. Unfortunately you haven’t left us much choice!! The professional software applications like CS6, AVID, Protools, Smoke and others require the most powerful hardware available. The ability to configure systems with specific hardware is essential for our businesses. The iMac is not the answer for these situations. (Not to mention that I already have 54 total inches of professional monitors sitting on my desk!!!)

We have waited patiently. We are only asking for a little insight. A timeframe would really go a long way in this relationship. Please, either set us free and tell us that the hardware is dead or give us a little peak behind the curtain. Its not too much to ask. We cannot wait any longer and its really not fair to string us along like this.

But did you know you can also tell iTunes to back up your device manually?  Here’s how:

1.  Make sure your device is plugged in and is showing in iTunes.
2.  Put your mouse on the device’s icon and right click on it.
3.  A drop down command window appears.
4.  Select BACKUP.

That’s it.  The above can be used to restore a device as well.

Samsung toppled Apple as the world’s biggest smartphone maker in the first quarter, helped by its line-up of Galaxy named devices running on Google’s free Android software.

The latest version of its flagship phone, unveiled this month, will first go on sale on May 29 in Germany before being rolled out to other countries.

The newspaper, which cited an unidentified Samsung official, also said the company’s smartphone factory in South Korea was running at its full capacity of 5 million units per month.

Samsung declined to comment.

It said late last month that the new Galaxy S smartphone would “substantially contribute” to its second-quarter earnings.
